Plastic cards with hot-stamping
Hot-stamping is an highly decorative form of printing on plastic cards. It involves applying silver, gold, or colored metallic foil to the surface of the card. The resulting print creates a shiny, decorative finish. Thanks to its technical simplicity and highly decorative effect, hot-stamping is the preferred choice for adding unique elegance to plastic cards.
Hot stamping is a popular printing technique used in various industries to add metallic foil to surfaces such as paper, plastic, leather, and fabric. This process involves subjecting a special foil to high temperature and pressure, transferring it to the substrate and creating a shiny, decorative finish. Hot stamping is appreciated for its ability to enhance product packaging, labels, book covers, and promotional materials with eye-catching designs.
Applications of hot stamping on plastic cards
Hot stamping is an excellent method to add an attractive appearance to cards representing the offer of a prestigious company. Examples include:
- VIP cards – a metallic shiny element will emphasize the uniqueness of the card
- high-value gift cards – a decorative element, such as a gift ribbon or the card’s value, will emphasize the “premium” effect of the card
- loyalty cards of exclusive stores – a logo or company name made with hot-stamping will make the card look equally exclusive
- luxury business cards – a pattern illustrating the service, a motto made in a decorative font in the style of a handwritten signature, will emphasize the luxurious level of the services offered.
It is worth mentioning that hot-stamping, in addition to its decorative function, can also be used as an element protecting the card against counterfeiting. This technique requires special machines and cannot be accomplished with ordinary plastic card printers, so it can be successfully used as an element to protect the card against forgery.
Hot-stamping – technical aspects
Hot stamping is typically available in two main colors: silver and gold. Additional color options, such as pink, copper, blue, and various shades of gold, can be provided upon request.
Preparing the project
Since the main card art is printed using an offset printing method and hot stamping requires a different technique, two separate designs will be necessary. One design should contain elements for offset printing, while the other should consist solely of elements for hot stamping, created in black, also known as 100% black (K). Full information on preparing card designs can be found in the technical specifications available for download at: Files for download.
The logo, company name, selected shape, or advertising slogan with a metallic finish will definitely make the card stand out, serving as a visually impressive and attractive element. VIP cards, gift cards, or luxury business cards can all successfully utilize this printing method to enhance their exclusive appearance.
